Living on a Budget
So I found out that I spend hundreds of dollars a month for food, entertainment, and other items that I could have saved towards paying off my student loans or saving for a car or even a house. So, from now on, I'm going to try to live on a budget, $20/day or $140/week. For some of you, that may still be a lot, but for me, that's how much I spend in a day or 2, which would explain me racking up thousands in credit card debt. Let's see if I can do it!

Budgeting Days 4 & 5
Okay, so I didn't write a post for Day 4 because I didn't spend anything yesterday. I had work and went to a club that didn't charge a cover fee, yay me! So, I had $7.71 left from Day 3 to roll over to Day 4, which was yesterday. So as of yesterday, I had $27.71 to rollover to today since I didn't spend any of that yesterday. So the daily budget is $20 + $27.71 rollover = $47.71 to spend today =D.
Today I thought was going to be a challenge since we went to a food festival and who knows what sorts of food I would be tempted to buy! However, that was not the case since I did not find most of the food there appetizing. I did buy a few items though:
-Some sort of corn soup thing = $3
Total spent today= $12
Parking= $5
$47.71
-$17.00
---------
$30.41 left to rollover tomorrow yay.

Totally broke my rule on not splurging on blended coffee but couldn't help it :(
But I met my budget for today yay!
I actually had dinner and a movie tonight but Ryan, my bf paid for it all so I don't know if I just cheated from my budgeting lol. So it's always good to have a companion to split checks with hehe.

How to Save Money on Food
So, here is an example of a platter from Bubba Gump's that cost $23.00 . First of all, that's about 2 hours of work for most of us. Thats 23 McChickens. That's about the cost of 3 days of groceries. We all have to admit that we do, more than occasionally eat out. So how do you save money when you eat out??1. Consider Street Vendors and Food Trucks. Everybody enjoys eating out. But eating out does not always mean eating in an expensive diner. Consider going to a park with some friends or a companion and purchase food from street vendors and/or food trucks. Each item will cost you an average of $5; a fraction of the price of the pasta above!
2. Skip the drinks. I always bring water bottles when I go out, simply because I refuse to pay $2+ for a soft drink. Trust me, these meager $2's do add up if you always end up purchasing a drink. Or if you go with a companion, just buy 1 if you must really have a drink. After all, most restaurants offer free refills.
3. Go to the restaurants during happy hour. What's not to love with discounted food?
4. Skip appetizers and dessert. Come on, do you really need these? You only really need a 1 course meal. If you must really divulge on dessert, purchase sweets at a grocery store and take it to a nearby park and enjoy! =D
5. Drink your coffee at home. $3-$5/day at Starbucks do add up to about $150/month, $1800...All on coffee?!
6. The best way to save on food....Eat at home...Not everyone are cooks, (I for example can only prepare cereal), but best learn to save money!
And if you must really eat out...Then check out some cheap diners I will post in another post so stay tuned! :)
Day 1
So far, it's 3:20 pm and I spent $10.85 on McDonald's food. That leaves me with $9.15 for the whole day. LOL.
Mcdonald's Large Fries, 2 Chicken Snackwraps, 1 Cheeseburger, 1 Ice cream Sundae= $10.85
$20.00
- 10.85
-----------
$ 9.15 left
current time: 3:30 pm.
eek.
11:45pm:
So I actually survived my first day of budgeting with $9.15 left to roll over for tomorrow, yay! =)
